Padgett Building & Remodeling
Basement Finishing by Padgett Building & Remodeling in Swansea, IL
Basements · Swansea, IL

Turn the space under your house into the best room in it.

Most basements are storing boxes when they could be the favorite room in the house. We finish basements into family rooms, guest suites, home theaters, and bars that feel like they were part of the original plan, not an afterthought tacked on underground. We finish basements across Swansea, Belleville, Mascoutah, Freeburg, and the surrounding Metro East.

Why Padgett

No shortcuts, where it matters most.

A basement has its own rules: moisture, egress, and headroom all have to be handled right or the finish work fails later. We detail the unglamorous parts correctly first, so the beautiful part lasts.

Below-grade, done right

A basement is won before the drywall.

The difference between a basement that stays dry and comfortable and one that smells like a basement is all in the order of operations. Here is how we do it.

1

Moisture & waterproofing

We start at the source. Grading, any water issues, and a vapor strategy get handled before a single stud goes up, because nothing you build on top matters if the space is damp.

2

Insulation & framing

Walls are framed off the foundation with the right insulation detailing, so the space holds temperature and stays comfortable in every season instead of fighting the concrete.

3

Egress & safety

Any basement bedroom needs a code-compliant egress window for a safe exit. We plan it early, along with smoke and carbon-monoxide detection, so the finished space is safe and legal.

4

Finish & trim

Only now does it become a room. Drywall, flooring, lighting, built-ins, and trim go in over a base that was done right, so it looks and feels like the rest of your house.

Good questions

Answers before you ask.

Does a finished basement add value to my home?

A well-finished basement is one of the strongest returns in remodeling because you are adding usable square footage without expanding the footprint. It also makes the house live larger for your own family right away.

Do I need egress windows?

If the basement will have a bedroom, code requires an egress window for safe exit. We handle the cutting, the window, and the well as part of the project so the space is safe and legal.

What about moisture and waterproofing?

We assess moisture before any finishing begins and detail insulation, vapor control, and flooring to suit a below-grade space. If there is a water issue, we address it first rather than finishing over it.
